Overview

They say you can feel forgiveness within Vietnam. It's part of the culture and temperament and resonates with Buddhism that many practice there. In a country that's fast developing, there remains a quiet aura of grace. After arriving in the vibrant city of Hanoi, our journey will begin on board our own boat, floating amongst the majestic islands of the world-renowned Ha Long Bay. Here, we can remove ourselves from the fast pace of everyday life and our recent travels and rest in the tranquil practice of Mindfulness. The islands' limestone caverns and hiking trails will also call us to explore for a couple of days while settling into our inner and outer journeys and the rhythm of our group. Hanoi will lure us back to its bustling streets for a thrilling motorbike ride, morning laughing yoga with local women in the park, and must-see sites like the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum before we move onto the ancient, peaceful city of Huế, known as the resting place of Thích Nhất Hạnh. The beautiful UNESCO Heritage city of Hoi An, with architecture inspired by both indigenous and foreign influences, offers a respite day where you can choose to explore the markets or relax within the hotel spa. We'll finish the day bonding cooking and savoring our own dinner before experiencing the magical lantern walk. On to Saigon, where history will give us pause and we'll come face to face with the grace of forgiveness. We will have a rare opportunity to speak with Vietnamese women who served during the "American War" then visit the War Remnant Museum. How does a whole society's forgiveness inspire the workings of our individual inner lives?

Our walking tour is the best way to see the wooden-fronted houses that once belonged to the town's prosperous merchants, the Japanese-covered Bridge and the wonderful market as well as the many silk, handicrafts, antique shops and galleries.

DAY 7

Feb 2-4 - Saigon

Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by many locals, was known as the "Paris of the Orient." Today, Vietnam's largest city is an industrial, cultural and educational hub, but still retains vestiges of its colonial past. While here, we will see both of the major sites of this historical city - like its Notre Dame Cathedral, botanical gardens, and the thought-provoking War Remnant Museum.

Excursions outside of Saigon will provide typical daily rural scenes, such as farmers in the rice paddies and villagers drying noodles by the side of the road.

A few hours from the city, the Cu Chi Tunnels, an incredible underground tunnel network constructed by Vietnamese resistance fighters (Viet Cong) during both the French and American wars, takes us directly to the war’s action. For our last evening together, we will host a celebration dinner and reflect on both the inner and outer journeys of Vietnam. (B,D & B,L & B,L,D)

A beautiful team has curated this experience for you! HHJ sister, Marianne, loved traveling with our Vietnamese guide, Tho, so much that she convinced him to put together an outer journey just for us! She then reached out to her dear friend, Millie, also an accomplished Mindfulness facilitator, to guide us through the inner journey. The star of the show is Vietnam, a country and culture that lives Forgiveness with breathtaking honesty and authenticity. We can already feel the healing transformation begin....

Tho Nguyen

Tho Nguyen

His personal warmth, humor, and thoughtfulness, partnered with his love for his country and experience sharing it, make any journey that he curates a memorable one.

Born 50 years ago in a small town outside of Hanoi, Tho always dreamed of traveling, which inspired him to initially study to be a seafarer. Later, he realized his true passion was tourism and enrolled in hospitality school in 1999. Throughout his experience, he's learned that "life is not just about physical achievements; it's about harmonizing our physical existence with our inner selves. My goal is to inspire others to prioritize their physical, spiritual and emotional well-being."

He has a lovely family, including his wife Hương and their two sons: Vinh, who is 21 and studying architecture, and their 10 year old son, who is in primary school.

Tho is excited to share his love for Vietnam - a country rich in contrasts, history, and warm hospitality! He creates meaningful experiences that go beyond sightseeing, helping travelers immerse themselves in beautiful culture.

Marianne Scott

Marianne Scott

Marianne is a retired elementary teacher, high school college counselor and willing volunteer. She is a wife and a mother to two adult daughters and a son. She is also a devoted “Mimi” to four grandchildren ages 6, 4, 3 and 2. She and husband Greg followed their adult children to Colorado in 2012 after spending over three decades in Southern California. They love the natural beauty of Colorado and the seemingly endless opportunities to hike, bike and explore outdoors.

Marianne’s passion for travel began at an early age with yearly family trips. Later with her own family, she planned summer vacations to Hawaii, to Europe and to a guest ranch in Arizona. Winter family vacations were focused on skiing.

She and Greg have traveled the world extensively since retiring and enjoy adding new countries to their growing list of “places visited”. Marianne loves learning about new cultures, meeting new people and discovering what she has in common with others, including her fellow travelers. She loves to share her adventures with friends and encourage them to explore the world. Travel provides Marianne continuing education about the customs, food, history, politics and creativity of others while continuously discovering new things about herself.

Jennifer Dale

Jennifer Dale

Jen loves celebrating and encouraging the beauty she sees in others. She's a gatherer and builder who naturally nurtures community and hosts safe environments for meaningful connection. She believes in our inherent wholeness and need for ongoing discovery, growth and relevance.

After pursuing careers in dance and design, Jennifer recognized that she thrives most nurturing people. She spent almost two decades developing and facilitating programmed trips and events for youth and families, including helping develop a national servant leadership program for teens as director during several of its formative years. As dean of girls at a midwestern boarding school, Jen heard a calling to nurture the kind of sisterhood that defies current cultural stereotypes and expectations. Honest Heart Journeys was conceived during long conversations about strong, gracious womanhood with a sister friend during COVID lockdowns. Jen loves exploring timeless women’s topics in her blogs and on her Honest Heart Podcast hosted on Spotify.

Travel has always been a passion of hers, and she’s seen firsthand the powerful impact of intentional experiences facilitated within correlative environments and universal themes found in literature. Thus, the birth of Honest Heart Journeys!Wherever Jen's gone, her 'sisters' -- wonderful women with whom she’s built teams, programs, and deep friendships – have been steady, supportive companions. This kind of quality sisterhood is woven through the HHJ experience. It encourages others to give time to nurture their spiritual hearts and gently holds them accountable to seeing and living their fullness, which of course blesses others.

Jen lives in Colorado and Florida with her husband, Bill, and is mother to three beautiful adult children who have blessed her with the new role of "Nani."

Reviews

My trip with HHJ brought out my true self, the self I haven't seen or felt in a very long time!

HHJ Trip Guest

My life transformed a year ago while walking the Camino de Santiago with Aileen, a 10+ year expert facilitator for The Work of Byron Katie. Walking the Camino de Santiago invites the trekker to pause and move inward to a place often not visited in our busy and complex home lives. Aileen and Jennifer, both wise and highly skilled women, give the traveler expert guidance and a compassionate and safe space to process the inner wisdom that unfolds along the way.

I was blown away by the opportunity to connect with an amazing group of women in a way I did not know was possible and in a format which opened up a beautiful way to connect and talk.
